Nutrition-The Different Food Service Styles

There are different styles of food  service which we will look into in this post. Among them are:

Fine-dinging service/formal service

A formal style of serving that is employed in elite restaurants .The guests are presented with a menu that enlists meal to select from. Advance equipment and utensils are used. The waiter does all the serving from the left side to the right.

Buffet service

A self-service style normally used in big events where food is put on the buffet table and then guests can serve themselves. The waiter offers assistance to the guests regarding questions on and restocks the dishes.

Tray service –Food is served on a tray and delivered to the guests  by the waiter. Its an effective method in that it allows a majority of people to be served fast.

Cafeteria service The diners head to the counter where they select the foods and drinks they want.Food is served by the kitchen staff from behind the counter.

Blue-plate service-Food is served on plates in the kitchen and then moved to the dining area .It is applicable only for  a few individuals. Accessories such as butter, jam , pepper etc are placed conveniently at the table.

Compromise style

All the dishes are placed adjacent to the host’s cover, then the host does all the serving.

English service style

The waiter serves the diners from the left. Each course is presented independently.The waiter begins to serve from the left. The dishes are then  after each course.

American service style-Food is placed into bowls where each person serves from. The bowl is passed from guest to guest- from the left to the right. Eating starts when each one has served, unless it is a large number of people .

Plated service

With this method, food is served on plates and presented to the guest seated at the table.It allows for the serving of many people.
