Prevention Of Under-nutrition

To tackle the under-nutrition concern, a number of key measures should be employed -Primarily, undernutrition must be recognized as a public health issue and thereof given priority in the long-term. Integral measures seeking to provide nutrition education to various communities should perhaps be mandatory to inform on the importance of diversified diets and proper nutrition. This may also require the constant updating and development of nutrition policies and health approaches as per novel realizations on undernutrition information. Promoting proper maternal and child health is yet another key component to reduce the recurrence of undernutrition. Proper maternal health during pregnancy and lactation are essential to promoting the development of well-nourished children. Economic empowerment – Educating community members on other sources of income or ways to acquire food e.g. through kitchen gardening, animal rearing, and growing crops that take short periods is an effective way to promote the access to foods during different time periods. Creating employment and encouraging micro-enterprises also allows for the provision of extra income.

Encourage proper hygiene and sanitation practices –Through proper hygiene and sanitation practices as well as access to safe drinking water, undernutrition cases can be managed.

Constant deworming-to reduce the cases of undernutrition resulting from parasitic infections.

The prevention of undernutrition can be achieved by implementing nutrition policies and health action plans that address undernutrition systematically. Nutrition education and proper nutrition are also essential components of combating undernutrition .This may involve creating awareness of the importance of promoting diversified diets in adequate amounts. To reduce intergeneration cycles of undernutrition, the importance of proper maternal health during pregnancy and lactation should be considered. Constant deworming and promoting good hygiene and sanitation are also integral measures to minimizing malnutrition incidences.
