The socio-economically disadvantaged-persons -With limited resources, it is unlikely for one to access adequate variety of nutrients. Due to the limited purchasing power, there are limited options as to the variety of affordable foods. As such, one is predisposed to malnutrition either as undernutrition or overnutrition. If the more affordable foods consist of junk and refined foods ,then one may become overnouished. Alternatively, if one is unable to obtain sufficient nutrients from various foods, they become undernourished.
Certain health conditions-As a result of certain conditions.i.e. ,malabsoprtion conditions inhibit the absorption of certain nutrients leading to undernutrition. Eating disorders can also prompt malnutrition by either leading to overnutrition or undernutrition .Persons with anorexia, for are likely to have undernutrition while those who binge-eat may likely have overnutrition.
Pregnant and lactating women-They have increased needs for various nutrients., and if those needs are not, meet they become susceptible to undernutrition.
The elderly-there is increased inability to absorb nutrient due to aging. This increases the likelihood of undernutrition .
Individuals who frequently use supplements-Using supplements without prescription can predispose you to micro-nutrient overnutrition by exceeding your intake of certain vitamins and minerals.
Sedentary persons- if you rarely engage in any physical activity, you become more susceptible to overnutrition because the food you consume is not put into use .Over time the food is stored as fat, leading to weight gain.
