In this post, we will discuss 2 important components of your research study -teh hypothesis and reserach question.
Hypothesis
A hypothesis is a testable science-based proposal founded on limited validation that requires additional analysis. It predicts a direct relationship between 2 study variables and acts as a guide for knowledge inquiry. It should be properly formulated to assert relevant findings because it directs the whole research process. An effective hypothesis should be concise, testable and sound.
Therefore, hypothesis development necessitates contemplative action to establish ideas that are constructive and justifiable. You should rationalize the logical outlook of your hypothesis as it informs your projections. Also ensure that your projections are very specific, to obtain conclusive results.
Have the understanding that your hypothesis will be tested using statistical methods to determine its credibility, so it has to be testable; hence, the need for careful research prior. The various types of hypotheses importantly steer the research design to be selected, influence the utilization of relevant data, direct sample size determination and influence scientific research advancement.
The main hypotheses can be classified as:
Null hypothesis (H₀) -It infers no significant relationship between the study variables. It rejects the claim being studied.
Alternative hypothesis (H₁) –It infers the presence of a relationship between study variables. It supports the claim under study.
Research question
A research question is another important component of a research study which is basically a precise query you ask from the research problem, which you aim to solve. It offers a guide to the data methods, data analysis methods and methodology to use to solve the problem. It is usually just a question. It differs from the research problem or problem statement, which is the broader issue prompting the study. The research problem explains the importance of the research, and it is usually a short paragraph.
